Since the dawn of Web Works, the little green man in our logo has received a lot of face time with the general public. Although his striking resemblance to Charlie's 'Green Man' on Always Sunny in Philadelphia garners insta-credibility, our 'Green Man' isn't the only likable face behind Web Works.
Until now, Web Works has stayed out of the spotlight, focusing on growing the company and creating the best product possible for our clients. Until now, our portfolio has been the primary looking glass for those who wish to examine the qualities of our team. But with a commanding increase of Facebook fans (from 24 to 674, to date) and 700+ clients, we feel the need to humanize the team you may perceive as state of the art, website producing machines.
On the contrary. We are a small business of around 20 employees that started 3 years ago with the intention of filling a void in the web design world. Before Web Works, website development was either do-it-yourself or thousands and thousands of dollars. Our goal was to create professionally designed, well written, affordable websites for small businesses. And since then, we have done just that.
Our staff consists of professionals, passionate about their jobs. Our web consultants are extremely talented, engaging, and fun. Not only do they know all of the ins and outs of our process, they can act as a consultant and adviser when it comes to creating the website.
Our delivery team consists of exceptionally talented writers and designers that don’t just “do web” at work, but at home and on weekends and in their sleep. They all have exceptional portfolios and many take on side projects to help them grow creatively. Each of our creative guns can flip the switch from abstract artistry to crisp professionalism or harmonize the two, depending on what the project requires.
The designers come from backgrounds of programming, interactive design, print design and painting. The writers come from being editors, journalists, copywriters and future novelists. We truly have a diverse gaggle of greatness that all contribute to the body of work that Web Works produces.
So, it is nice to meet you. We look forward to getting to know you!

And the Winner Is........
Kristin and Steve's collaborative efforts on ARP!
http://www.arp-retirement.com
Web Works has its niche in service oriented websites. Most of our sites are centered around the industries of residential and commercial construction, plumbing & electrical work, however we are spreading our wings every day with sites that cover new territory - and ARP is a prime example.
The coordinator and copywriter, Kristin McMahon, did an exceptional job of researching and studying the subject of retirement planning. Not only did she put in the time learning the "ins and outs" of this service, she wrote from the human perspective as well. Asking friends and family what they wanted out of retirement planning, she put in the extra effort to make sure her writing was geared towards actual people and their needs.
Steve Starzyk was the designer working on this site. His goal, before even opening Photoshop, was to create a design that was clean, user friendly and professional. He chose a cool color scheme, consisting of monochromatic blues, to help communicate the trust this company has to offer. He set up the home page in a three column layout so that viewers would be able to find what they wanted right away.
We always love comments so tell us what you think!
Other contenders in the contest were:
http://www.bffcontract.com
http://www.thepremierapplianceservice.com/
Also, make sure and stay tuned for the contest winner of January. New year, whole new designs and writing!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!
Web Works welcomes Evan Miller to the ranks of Senior staff!
Evan Miller celebrated a recent promotion from Staff Designer to Senior Web Designer at Web Works on December 21st. He's been a major player in the success of our company and at present has designed countless web sites for small businesses around the country.
Along with being a talented, resourceful web designer, Evan's also an incredible offline artist (no kidding, look at his fine art pieces and illustrations: www.evanart.com), an indispensable coworker, and a dear friend to many of us on the Web Works crew.
We'll blame the tardiness of this post on the crazy holiday season, but luckily, Evan is a patient guy, i.e. doesn't mind waiting a couple more weeks for this post to be indexed and appear as a search result when Googling his name. Take that, nosey former high school peers and Facebook stalkers!
Cheers to Evan Miller!

Web Works Battle Royale
Web Works Delivery Contest Will Crown the Finest Site of December
Clearly, our delivery team was getting along far too well. The pods were helping each other manage the workload, sharing ideas, and even engaging in cordial conversation. Oh! The humanity. Well, things are about to change.
On January 8th, a single website will be unveiled as December's cream of the crop. Each pod will select their strongest site of the month and present it to the President and VP of the company. After weeks of grueling deliberation, our judges will award the gold to the most marvelous of sites. What constitutes a truly marvelous site? The darling will be a tour de force of graphic ingenuity, compelling copy, and infallible SEO. And, of course, the website must be in keeping with the client's needs and marketing goals.
As we energize our portfolio, the friendly fire of office competition rages on. Former allies are now pit against each other in a fight to the finish. Not to fear, the casualties are projected to be minimal and our portfolio victorious. Stay tuned.

Is There Such Thing as Affordable Web Design?
Affordable web site design is somewhat of a dying market. There are millions of small businesses that require a web site and would benefit greatly by a professionally designed site. However, these people are left with few options. They are conscious of their costs and don't want to spend thousands of dollars to a traditional web design company, but also expect more than what the 'build-it-yourself' template providers can offer. They exist in this limbo state, and typically, this leads to no web site at all.
With new options arising on the market to get a custom web site designed by professional designers and copywriters, the number of businesses in this limbo state will decrease and more businesses will have the opportunity to launch a web site for their business.
What does everyone think about the current options to get a web site and the quality you experienced with your design firm if you had a site built in the past?
